Characterization- Mrs. Reed

Mrs. Reed is a flat character in Jane Eyre.

 "You were born, I think, to be my torment: my last hour is racked by the recollection of a deed, which, but for you, I should never have been tempted to commit"(243).

Through out the novel only one side of Mrs. Reed is seen. We only see her cruel side to Jane. We never know about her beliefs or anything else about her. She is only cruel to Jane and nice to her kids. Mrs. Reed is a round character because we know so little about her.
