"Whenever I marry," she continued, after a pause which none interrupted, "I am resolved my husband shall not be a rival, but a foil to me. I will suffer no competitor near the throne; I shall exact an undivided homage: his devotions shall not be shared between me and the shape he sees in his mirror."-182One view of love in the novel is brought up by Blanche Ingram. Her idea of love is that the partners should be opposite of each other. She also thinks that one should be superior of the other person as well. While on the other hand Mr. Rochester and Jane are very similar and get along very well and are in love. In this novel there are many different views of love and marriage but the theme of it is throughout the book.

I agree that they're are many different views on what love is in this book. Jane and Mr.Rochester are what I think we would call nowadays in love, they truly care for each other and want each other to be happy. St. John has a different view on love, he lives to serve god, in his opinion. So, St. John will love the person he thinks God wants him to love, not who he wants to love.
